The TestAS at your university

Admission made to measure

The Test for Academic Studies (TestAS) measures general and subject-specific cognitive abilities that are required for studying in Germany. This means that using TestAS as part of your selection and admissions process for international students makes a valuable contribution to efficiency and accuracy.

The use of TestAS at your university

Advantages of TestAS:

  • Efficiency for universities: g.a.s.t. takes care of test development, test administration and test evaluation. When you receive applications through uni-assist, the TestAS results are automatically attached to the application documents.
  • Global accessability: Test takers can take the test almost world-wide in a global network of g.a.s.t. test centres.
  • Objectivity and fairness: As a standardised aptitude test, TestAS is an objective criterion.
  • Predictive validity: TestAS improves the prognosis of academic success for international students compared to HZB without TestAS.
  • High accuracy: The construct and the test items of the TestAS are scientifically sound and are maintained in ongoing cooperation with university representatives.
  • Efficiency for test takers: Applicants from some countries (such as Vietnam and China) already take part of the TestAS as part of the application procedures of the Academic Evaluation Centres (APS).

‘The University of Hamburg has been using the TestAS for 11 years as part of a bonus model: with a good TestAS result, applicants can improve the grade of their university entrance qualification. The TestAS thus offers us the opportunity to adjust international school grades using an objective procedure to measure aptitude for study.’

TestAS in the admission and selection process

Various options for using TestAS to evaluate applicants, such as setting minimum scores or voluntarily upscaling applications, offer universities flexible options for selecting and admitting students, especially international high school graduates.
